Nurturing the Journey: A Comprehensive Guide to Pre and Post Care for your Breathwork Experience

Whether it’s your first or 100th time, embarking on your breathwork journey can be a profound experience, offering deep insights and transformative healing. Yet, to fully embrace the potential of this practice, it's essential to prepare with intention beforehand and provide nurturing care to yourself afterward. In this guide, we'll explore a few crucial elements of both precare and postcare and, how you can set yourself up for success with intention and loving awareness.

Breathwork Precare:

Water and Food: Hydration is key. Make sure you are adequately hydrated the day before and on the morning of the session. However, it's important to stop drinking water about one hour before the session. When we breathe on a full belly this can actually block energy flow and potentially cause nausea.

Set and Setting: Choose a quiet and comfortable space where you won't be disturbed during your session. Ensure it's comfortable for you to sit or lie down for the duration of the breathwork practice. Typically, laying on a yoga mat with a bolster or pillows under the legs and/or head can really provide some extra comfort. You can also clear your space with some smudging tools like sage, palo santo, or your favorite essential oil blend. I also like to remove any clutter or distractions that might tug at my attention.

Clothing and Comfort: Opt for light, flowy clothing that allows for unrestricted movement. Bring items like a cozy blanket, socks, a beanie, an eye mask, and/or layers to ensure your comfort throughout the session. Don't forget a journal for post-session reflection and any crystals that resonate with you!

Breathwork Post Care:

Grounding: Coming back to your body and down-regulate your nervous system is super important for post breathwork care. Mindful movements like gentle stretching or a walk outside. Journaling about your experience can be not only grounding, but also promotes integration. Taking a soak in the bath with your favorite salts or candles is also a beautiful way to return to a state of balance.

While these are just some of my favorite ways to really nourish yourself before and after breathwork, there are plenty more and, doing what feels best for you, and your body, will always number one in my book. By prioritizing your pre and post care, we create a container for deep healing and transformation in breathwork journeys. I love bringing an intention to both of these practices as it truly is a way honor to the sacredness of the experience and nurture ourselves from beginning to end.

See you in session!
